Brighton Half Marathon – Youth races and T-Shirt Design Competition

Brighton Half Marathon 2012The Brighton Half Marathon organisers are pleased to announce the launch of their Youth Races for the 2012 race, which takes place on Sunday 19th February 2012, starting and finishing on Madeira Drive on Brighton’s seafront

Race Director Becky Stevens and her team were present at the National Playday celebrations in Hove Park on Wednesday 3rd August 2011 to officially declare registration for the Brighton Half Marathon Youth Races open.

The Youth Races are aimed at young runners of all abilities who want to experience the crossing of a big finish line and be part of the buzz of Brighton Half Marathon race day. The age groups for entrants are 8-10 years, 11-13 years and 14-16 years. The 1 mile race starts near the Peter Pan Playground on Madeira Drive, loops at Brighton Pier and finishes on the main finish line.

Every runner gets chip timed and receives a t-shirt as well as a goodie bag and a medal at the finish line. There are also prizes for the fastest boy and girl in each age group. The Brighton Half Marathon Youth Races have been growing in popularity over the last couple of years, showcasing some great emerging talent. With the buzz of London 2012 and the ever-increasing promotion of sport and fitness the organisers predict that a record number of young runners will be at the start line in 2012.

T-Shirt Design Competition

In celebration of the Youth Races the organisers have also launched a T-Shirt Design Competition, giving youngsters aged 8-16 years the chance to create a designfor the Youth Race t-shirt for 2012 which will be worn by hundreds of Youth Race runners on race day. The theme of the competition is ‘Running by the sea’ and a template can be downloaded from the website. The Brighton Half Marathon is organised by and the main fundraiser for The Sussex Beacon.
