February Half Term Fun

It might feel as though the kids have only just gone back to school, but believe it or not, Half Term is already just around the corner!  Don’t panic though, as always, there’s plenty going on in the Brighton area to keep your little ones occupied and entertained. myminidisco returns with their ever popular dance party for kids, at the Komedia in Brighton. On 17th February they are holding a Valentine’s Ball for kids and their grown ups. The Outdoors Project, After School Clubs BrightonThe Outdoors Project – Half Term Kids Adventure Boot Camps: The Outdoors Project will be offering lots of activities for the February half-term holidays, from Nerf Wars to Woodland Adventure games. You can book single sessions or 2 sessions per day.


B Starz February half term holiday club 2013B Starz Academy Half Term Boot Camp: After the huge success of last year’s camps, the B Starz Academy returns this year with a smash hit all singing, all dancing Boot Camp. The Bstarz team of professional West End performers will host a series of vocal, dance and acting workshops for young people aged 7-11 and 12-16.

Classes on offer include street dance, vocal classes, microphone technique, script work, choreography, casting workshops and many more!

Court Farm Film Making Course: Could your little one be the next George Lucas or Steven Spielberg? Then they’ll love this child-friendly crash course in film making. The kids will plan, storyboard, film and star in their own short movies!

Science Fiction Film Making for kids: Following on from their extremely popular Halloween film course for kids, Bite Size Movies invites you to take part in their latest ‘genre’ based kids film making course. For two days, wannabe film makers will be blasting off where no one has gone before and creating a short science fiction film from scratch. learning about scripting, story boarding and special effects, with the mission in mind to produce a short film and screen it at the Duke of York’s Cinema later in the year!

Cookery Doodle Doo – Hunny Bunny’s Quick Bread: Cookery Doodle Doo will be teaching kids to use rosemary and runny-honey to flavour a buttermilk rich bread that’s ready in under an hour. A great speedy weekend lunch project or breakfast with the kids!

Playmakes at Brighton Dome: After each family-friendly event at The Dome, grown-ups can enjoy a coffee while the children indulge in some crafty fun & make something wonderful to take home.

Character Building at Hove Museum: Children can take along family photos to help draw characters and bring them to life in this fun illustration workshop run by Clive Goodyer.

Young Artist Day at Brighton Museum: Creative kids will love this series of short workshops lead by local young artists, who are completing their Arts Awards at Brighton Museum.

Make & Do at Hove Museum: Meet Hetty Feather, Tracy Beaker and other characters created by Jacqueline Wilson in this badge making and colouring activity at Hove Museum! Enter a prize draw by creating your very own book cover.

Out & About

The Royal Pavilion Ice Rink: The Ice Rink will remain open over half term for lots of slippy fun for the whole family!

Octopus Garden at SEA LIFE BrightonThe Sea Life Centre in Brighton launches its latest feature, the Octopus Garden, during February half term! Octopus Garden will be a new £100,000 feature exhibition starring different species of octopus and their cousins, replacing the current Jellyfish Discovery area.

The Sundae Club: Five fantastic hours of family fun at the Komedia Brighton!

With the Sundae Club’s playful mix of workshops, films, games, competitions and live music there is something for everyone from the ages of 0-99

The Enormous Turnip - Brighton DomeThe Enormous Turnip at Brighton Dome: This re-potted version of the world-famous children’s story is brought larger-than-life in this half-term treat with a miraculous mix of eccentric puppetry, live music and unswerving energy. 

Sally & The Sunflower: Ripstop Theatre Company presents Sally & The Sunflower. A delightful story of a very small girl, a very tall sunflower and a magical adventure, Sally & The Sunflower is an enchanting and inventive re-telling of Jack & The Beanstalk with puppetry, colourful projections and storytelling.

Model World at The Brighton Centre: Modelworld is a unique exhibition showcasing models of all types from around the country.

The show is now in it’s 35th year. Having started out as a model railway show it now encompasses so much more and has become genuinely a family model show with something for children of all ages, 1-100.

The Brighton Science Festival

The lovely people at Brighton Science Festival have organised lots of great events for kids over half term, Judging by this lot, science is definitely not boring!

Games & Tricks Day: Novel board games, strategy games, educational games & more at The Latest Music Bar.

The Pocket Science Festival: The Brighton Science Festival visits Crawley with the Pocket Science Festival. It looks like a fairground. It IS a fairground, but each of the stalls has a surprise, something to grapple your mind, to discover, explore and play with. Bash the Rat, Pin the Tail on the Donkey, put Dad in a Bin, build the Incredible Machine, plus many incredible other things, plus incredible talks from Richard Robinson – (“Victor Meldrew meets Basil Fawlty! Fantastically engaging!”)

Beach Craft at The Latest Music Bar: Build a beach inside the bar! Hovering seagulls, Pin the tale on the whale and lots more fun!

White Heat Sunday: Crazed creatives, mad makers and instant inventors get to grips with robots, zombies, a mass of crafts, a raft of music, glue, paint and mess. Build Brighton’s in here somewhere with stars of the Mini-Maker fayre, and the Incredible Machine, if there’s room.

Craft Workshops: Lots of crafty fun with a scientific twist!

Painting, Science & Restoration: Artist and Conservator Stig Evans will reveal the hidden secrets of a painting, with hands on experiments and demonstrations.

Microscope Madness: Can you help our muddled-up scientist identify different rocks and insects using microscopes and magnifying glasses? Come face to face with nature’s wonders at this event using specimens from the museum’s collections.

Flavour Sensation: An exciting new interactive event takes your taste buds on a roller-coaster ride through the senses. It will challenge each of your innate senses – taste, smell, touch, sight and sound – to see how they react with each other when different flavours and textures are thrown into the mix.
