We visited Brighton this weekend and stayed at the Seattle Hotel in the Marina with our 10 month old son. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel as being child friendly. We stayed in a large king sized sea view room (do pay the extra for this if you can as the extra space and the time you can spend with your children looking out from the balcony at all the boats are really worth it, plus the land facing rooms look over the Asda carpark – not so nice!) and the room was really spacious, plenty of space for us to take our buggy and all our clutter with us and not feel cramped even once our travel cot was assembled. We took our own as we know our son finds it comfortable but the hotel are very happy to provide one too. Infact, the staff saw from our booking that we had booked with a baby but we hadnt ticked the cot option on our online booking form. They took the trouble to phone us to double check if we would like one and to offer the use of cot blankets to save us bringing ours. They also provided a high chair in the room on request as we wanted to feed our son earlier than the restaurant opened. The room itself was really safe for children. It is a minimalist style and there was nothing which my son could pull over onto him or anything. There was enough space for him to get all his toys out on the floor and play. All the plugs and wires from the lamps were out of sight or out of reach which was good. The hotel has a very relaxed ethos and the staff were great, really making a fuss of our son and they positively encouraged him to crawl along the corridors and clean, safe, communal areas. At breakfast the kind waiter stopped to speak to him and make him laugh and kept reassuring us it was NO problem that our son was hurling toast, cereal and scrambled egg all over the floor, saying it is all part of the way kids learn about food. A perfect attitude, and really allowed us to relax.
All in all, I felt that our son was welcomed, rather than tolerated.
I gather that if you have older children they offer activity packs and
    kites for them too.
The hotel does offer a babytel listening service which links your mobile phone to the phone in the room. If your baby cries, the system automatically calls your mobile phone so that you can listen in. This allows you to go down to the restaurant for dinner once your little one is in bed if you wanted. We didnt use/test this as I dont feel comfortable leaving our baby alone in the room, but the option is there if you wanted it. If not, there is room service available or there is a Pizza Express just under the hotel which does all the usual pizza/pasta/salad takeaway options.
You do need to know that the hotel is not airconditioned and is built over the marinas restaurants so if you visited in the summer and you had all the windows open to let the sea air breeze in, you would get some hum from the diners underneath. For this reason, my tip would be to ask for a top floor room so you are further away from any potential noise.
