You can hear yourself enjoying saying slightly louder than you probably should on the telephone when out and about “Oh yes we are staying up at Heronsdale Manor that weekend darling!”.
The first time we booked there we did an advance trip to meet the owners and farmers Kirstie and Matthew. Their dog was having pups at the time we visited and they quickly welcomed us into their home to share the experience. When we actually camped at the manor they were equally hospitable and Matthew regularly popped down with firewood, extra hay bales to sit on and just to hang out for a chat to tell us more about the history of this lovely place.
The circular camping area is great for families, alongside a field full of lambs and surrounded by beautiful woodlands. In the centre there is a cluster of trees submerged 6’ below the field and the children spent the whole weekend there climbing trees and making games out of skidding and jumping down the hillside
The hot wood fired showers were designed and made by the couple themselves and are superior to any other camp shower I have ever had – I normally don’t bother as its such as unpleasant experience but these are delightful and really help you enjoy a showering experience in the great outdoors.
Camp fires are allowed (with fire pit) which is a pre-requisite for us personally when we are choosing a campsite. Other facilities include: local wood & charcoal, washing-up facilities, 2 eco toilets and phone charging. Bell Tents and Mess tents can often be hired at the venue from one of their partners. Local wood & charcoal, washing-up facilities, phone charging are available and the nearest pub is The Starr inn, Rocks lane in Waldron.
We loved our stay so much we will be booking for the same weekend again this year and hopefully bringing some more families with us to enjoy the setting.
