Brighton Fringe 2016 is packed with the kind of shows kids can’t get enough of. Whether they’re the quiet, contemplative types or budding adrenaline junkies, we’ve got enough to keep them entertained from dawn to dusk.
Get into the swing at Brighton’s very own Open Air Theatre, for the world premiere of The Secret Garden, a vibrant re-imagining of the children’s classic brought to life through music, dance and umbrellas in the beautiful surroundings of Dyke Road Park.
Also new this year is The Den, a dedicated children’s area with family friendly activities and workshops for the under 5s at pop up venue The Warren in the grounds of St Peter’s Church. Older children can join the Warren’s Woodland Tribe and help create the play space of every young adventurer’s dreams. With family shows galore there as well, you’ll hardly need move from this one site all month.
That said, paying a visit to major new pop up venue Republic is also a must. This new venue right on the beach features Monstersaurus!, the Amazing Bubble Man, Curious Creatures and many more smash hit shows. Sea, sun (fingers crossed) and entertainment for everyone.
If it’s all-day family fun you’re after, then the Fringe City family picnics in the Pavilion Gardens on Saturday 7 and 14 May never disappoint while Hove Park hosts both Hove Carnival (30 May) and Funk the Family Festival (28 May). And if the weather disappoints then The Rialto, Sweet Venues, the Brighton Spiegeltent, Distrikt, Komedia, The Old Market and Blue Man all have plenty of children’s shows on offer.
Finally, round up your Fringe by saving the world from the Agents in Black with Project: Oggbots, an interactive, outdoor intergalactic treasure hunt across the streets of Brighton.
Be there – or wish you had been!
